Types of Bonds
To post a Boone County bond, contact the Boone County Jail at (859) 334-2143.
Personal Recognizance (OR)-Also known as a signature bond. Defendant must appear for all schedule court dates.
Unsecured Bonds-Signature bond with dollar amount. Defendant will be responsible for dollar amount if they fail to appear for their court dates.
Surety Bonds-3rd party posts bond for Defendant, is responsible for making sure Defendant makes all schedule court dates. Upon resolution of the case, the Judge will order a bond release to the surety. To recover the bond amount, the surety will need to bring a photo ID and bond receipt to the bookkeeping department.
Cash Bonds-Full amount of bail paid to the court. Upon resolution of the case, the Judge will order the bond to be applied to court costs and fines (if applicable) and refunded to the defendant.
Partially Secured (10%)-Defendant must post 10% of the total bond amount. Upon resolution of the case, the Judge will order the bond to be applied to court costs and fines (if applicable) and refunded to the defendant.
*If defendant is found guilty, 10% of the amount posted on the bail bond, but not less than $5, will go to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office.
Property Bonds- Property Bond, is a bond in which the defendant or surety pledges real property located in Kentucky instead of cash to guarantee the defendant's appearance. The amount pledged must be twice the amount of the bond over and above any encumbrances or exemptions. If bond is forfeited, the state will foreclose on the property used as security. For more information on Property Bonds, please contact the Bookkeeping office at (859) 448-2905.
Bond Releases cannot be processed after 3:30pm.
ALL BONDS HAVE A $25 BOND FILING FEE
Any court costs and/or fines ordered by the Judge, must be paid by the given date. If unable to pay in full, make payments and return to court on the given date to ask for additional time. Must be making payments in order to receive a continuance.
All pre-payable citations must be paid in full by the given date on the citation or a license suspension/bench warrant could be issued.

If you are ordered by a Judge to pay restitution through the Clerk's Office, please make your payment through bookkeeping by the given date. If making payments, please keep an up-to-date address on file.
*If paying restitution through the Clerk's Office, a 5% State Poundage Fee will be applied to the total.
If you are referred to CLS Mediation for restitution, please refer to the blue form provided to you during court and contact CLS to set up a payment plan.
